Coronavirus

Non-urgent advice: COVID-19: What you need to know

If you have any of these symptoms, you may have COVID-19:

– Fever or high temperature

– New continuous cough

– Loss or change to your sense of taste or smell

– Muscle aches, tiredness, headache, dizziness

– Mild chest pain

– Diarrhoea or vomiting

– Skin rashes

You might not have all these symptoms, but if you feel unwell, you could have COVID-19.

What to Do If You Have Symptoms

– Take paracetamol and drink plenty of fluids to help with symptoms.

– Most people recover within 2 to 3 weeks without needing to see a doctor.

– Keep an eye on your temperature if you can.

When to Seek Medical Help

You do NOT need to contact your GP or NHS 111 if your breathing is normal and your oxygen levels are normal.

However, if you are over 65, or under 65 with a health condition that makes you vulnerable, and you test positive for COVID-19, it is important to monitor your oxygen levels using a pulse oximeter.

You can buy a pulse oximeter online, or contact the practice as we may be able to lend you one.

Emergency Symptoms – Go to A&E or Call 999 Immediately If:

– Your oxygen level is 92% or below (check twice to be sure).

– You cannot speak full sentences because of breathlessness.

– Your breathing suddenly gets worse.

– You cough up blood.

– You collapse, faint, or have a seizure.

– You develop a rash that does not fade when pressed.

– You feel very confused, agitated, or drowsy.

– You stop passing urine or pass much less than usual.

– You feel cold, sweaty, with pale or blotchy skin.

Other Signs to Get Help From NHS 111 or Your GP

– Feeling very breathless, especially when moving or standing.

– Severe muscle aches or tiredness.

– Shaking or shivering.

– Oxygen levels of 93-94% or lower than your usual if below 95%.

– Feeling generally very weak or unable to care for yourself.

You can contact NHS 111:
